About:
Houndstooth is a linocut exploring the relationship between printmaking and woven textiles. The block is carved to mimic the structure of fabric, with horizontal and vertical lines forming the warp and weft. The familiar houndstooth pattern emerges where these lines intersect.
By translating a pattern associated with woven cloth into a carved and printed surface, the work plays with the relationship between material, construction and repetition. What appears at first to be textile is instead created through the marks and imperfections of the printmaking process.
