About:
Knot is part of a series of layered papercuts exploring architectural forms and the movement of decorative ideas between places and cultures. The work draws on the influence of the Grand Tour, when exposure to European art and design introduced new decorative languages to English houses and estates.

Its intricate geometry is built from a series of meandering turns and interlocking crosses, with the larger pattern repeated again at a smaller scale towards the centre of the work.

Through eight delicate layers of paper, forms traditionally expressed in architectural materials are transformed through depth, shadow and light, exploring how decorative ideas can be adapted, repeated and given new identities as they move between materials and periods.
