Part of a series of layered papercuts exploring the movement of architectural forms and ideas between cultures. West considers the influence of Byzantine and Islamic architecture brought back to Europe during the period of the Crusades, particularly the meeting of geometric star forms with the naturalistic traditions of European stonemasonry.

Through layered paper, architectural forms normally expressed in stone are reinterpreted through depth, shadow and light, exploring how visual ideas are transformed as they travel between places and cultures.
