It’s February and we have been exploring pen and ink. Inspired by the fluid illustrations in The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy, had encouraged us to explore this medium. Many pages in the sketchbook later, we’ve incorporated additional mediums, expanding from various pen nibs, to incorporate brushes and water and gouache paints. Mixing gouache with water, created an opaque pigment which has properties similar to ink. Of the various illustrations and hand lettering, Gregory’s favourites so far have been these stone forms. These rounded pebbles, tumbled by the sea and veined by white crystals are tactile and morph into ink and water that give the very essence of geology and nature.
